LO4: Final Piece 5

The video above is how I create this photograph below. Firstly I used the quick selection tool to select the face of my model and paste it on the other image with the hand over face. After that I changed the opacity of the overlaid photograph, this was so I could line the face up with the one behind so the photograph stay realistic. Then I used the quick selection tool again to overlay the models hand. I then changed the opacity of the hand so we can see the emotions behind. As I didn’t take this photograph in the studio because I wanted to use natural light I didn’t have a blank background so after I edited the model I removed the background and turned it black before I changed the colour, contrast and brightness of the model. I changed the colour to black and white as this it makes the emotions the main focus of the photograph. After I changed the brightness and contrast I enlarged the photograph to see the model close up as the emotions on the face are the main focus.

Hidden Pain

This Image relates to the theme of identity, as emotions are part of identity as it is a very personal part that belongs to someone. I think this photograph demonstrates this as I have overlaid the hand of the old mans hand which reveals the full emotion underneath which in reality we would not be able to see.

If I was to display this photograph I think it would be best suited in a exhibition printed on a canvas A2 size which is 420 x 594, I think this would be a good size as it is quite a large size which will be most effective as this photograph has a big meaning.

The Meaning of this photograph is to show the hidden emotions that no one sees in reality, it is a visual way of showing the issue that people suffer of pretending to be happy all the time.

This photograph is in black and white as it makes the photo timeless and classic, it also show the details in the persons face which is very important for this final piece as the main focus is about the emotions.

LO3: Contact sheets

I have taken a range of photographs from various settings using different camera techniques and angles, the photographs that look the best are the portrait, this is because portraits are the best way to allow the audience to focus on the emotions of the model, this connotes a deep meaning which instantly makes the photographs more effecting creating a bigger impact on the audience.

LO3: Lesson Objective

5 things I need to do for my final pieces:

1. Need to take more photographs using a range of different angles and shot types, this is so there is a variation in my 5 final pieces.

2. Need to evaluate the best 10 photographs (That are usable based on my theme)

3. Edit 5 or more photographs to a high technical standard and also making sure there is meaning behind it that relates back to the theme of identity.

4. Evaluate the edits, write how they are good and how the can be improve.

5. Pick the best 5 for my final pieces

LO3 - Photography and Evaluation

1.

This photograph is of the model (Hermione Archer) I took this photograph in the form of a portrait, this is as I the model needs to be the main focus of this photograph, I have also used a black backdrop in order for the model to be the only focus this means that this photograph doest have depth of field (this also makes the Photoshop easier to edit which means it will be at a higher quality.) I am going to edit this image in Photoshop to create a meaning. In Photoshop I am going to  merge another photograph of her, however the other photograph will be the same position but without her hands, this is so it make the photograph more realistic as the model will be in the same angle. The purpose of this photograph is to create a meaning. The meaning of this image is to show the emotions that are hidden, this relates back to theme of identity. This will hopefully will have an impact on the audience because many people hide there emotions and people don't know what is going on in other peoples lives and these photographs are a visual representation of this.

-Black back drop this was to make the photograph easy to Photoshop, this worked well, however the models hair slightly blends into the backdrop which makes it harder to edit.

-3 Point Lighting this was to make sure the lighting is balanced so that all of the photograph has been lighten up, this is also to get rid of unwanted shadows. This worked well, but there are still some parts of this photograph that has an unwanted shadow however this be cropped out while editing as I need a close up of the model.

-Camera with Standard Kit Lens I used a Standard Kit Lens instead of a portrait lens as a portrait lens only focus' on the foreground but as I used a black backdrop it wasn't needed. I think the Standard Kit Lens worked well as all my photographs came out in focus.

-Taken from eye level I took think photograph from eye level for the audience to see the image from a real perspective.

-Portrait— this photograph is portrait as I wanted the main focus point to be the face of the model because even though this photograph is of a girl with hands over her face my idea is about showing emotions and portrait is the best way to show this which will be shown after editing on photoshop.

-F-stop
-Aperture 1.4000
-ISO 100

I think these setting worked best as I used 3 point light which meant my subjects were exposed to light so I chose these settings to make sure the photographs weren't over exposed or under exposed.

I think the strengths in this photograph is the lighting as it brings out the natural colours, however this photograph could be improved by taking it close up as even though the lighting is a strength there are still some shadows below which could be taken out, this can be changed by retaking the photograph or cropping it in Photoshop.

2.

This photograph is similar to my last image of the model (Hermione Archer) I also took this photograph in the form of a portrait, this is as I the model needs to be the main focus of this photograph, I have also used a black backdrop in order for the model to be the only focus this means that this photograph doest have depth of field (this also makes the Photoshop easier to edit which means it will be at a higher quality.) This worked well apart from there is a disracting background, however I will be removing this using photoshop.

-Camera with Standard Kit Lens I used a Standard Kit Lens instead of a portrait lens as a portrait lens only focus' on the foreground but as I used a black backdrop it wasn't needed. I think the Standard Kit Lens worked well as all my photographs came out in focus.

-Black back drop this was to make the photograph easy to Photoshop, this worked well, however the models hair slightly blends into the backdrop which makes it harder to edit.

-Natural lighting I tried out using natural lighting, I think this worked well as I made everything in focus and also all of the colours are natural and the photo wasnt over or under exposed. This worked well apart from there is a disracting background, howeve r I will be removing this using photoshop.

-Camera with Standard Kit Lens I used a Standard Kit Lens instead of a portrait lens as a portrait lens only focus' on the foreground but as I used a black backdrop it wasn't needed. I think the Standard Kit Lens worked well as all my photographs came out in focus.

-Taken from eye level I took think photograph from eye level for the audience to see the image from a real perspective, this is also so the emotions are more visible than using other angles.

-Portrait— this photograph is portrait as I wanted the main focus point to be the face of the model because my idea is about showing emotions and portrait is the best way to show this.

-F-stop 1/60
-Aperture 1.4000
-ISO 12800

I think the strengths in this photograph is the lighting as it brings out the natural colours as this image was taken using natural lighting, however this photograph could be improved by taking a close up as the emotions on the models face needs to be seen another thing that could be improved is the backdrop as it isnt blank which can take the focus off the emotions, this can be edited in Photoshop by cropping the photograph slightly and also removing the background using the quick selection tool or I could retake the photograph closer up and with a blank backdrop.

10.

This photograph is similar to my other images, However this is of a different model which I again took in the form of a portrait, this is as I the model needs to be the main focus of this photograph. This time I have used natural lighting, this means I have taken the photograph outside, this means that the background isnt blank, however I can edit this in photoshop tho creat a black back drop which will make the model the main suject of the photograph. Even though there is a background in this photograph I still havent used depth of field as I will later be editing the background out in Photoshop. I am going to edit this image in Photoshop to create a meaning. In Photoshop I am going to  merge another photograph of him, however the other photograph will be the same position but without his hands, this is so it make the photograph more realistic as the model will be in the same angle. The purpose of this photograph is to create a meaning. The meaning of this image is to show the emotions that are hidden, this relates back to theme of identity. The photographs I have taken are very similar, however I am showing varity through the different emotions shown on the models face and also the hand gestures that I will be experimenting with. I have also tried different angles and camera techniques but portrait is the best fitted for this idea.
